Pyramiden

Natalya, a child of Pyramiden during the Soviet era, holds her heart in her hand as she returns home after 20 years, reminiscing on what once was. Never fully recovering from the decline of their happy Soviet world and the death of her sister, a deep melancholy engulfs her nostalgic feelings towards her once thriving home town. The bleak, foreboding mountains and penetrating arctic seascape greet her memory with images of pure joy and love. Drawing a deep emotional response, it is not long before the landscape from the past, dripping from the empty walls, creeps in and haunts her waking state. For just one second, she imagines Galina back in her arms, suspended in time and space. Leaning into the pain she explores a deep, visceral version of herself juxtaposed with the meaning of her life and an awareness of her own mortality. Soaring and falling, Lana lets go of what was and dreams with hope of what the future could be.

To love is to lose.
